I’m building an Monitoring Dashboard with a Service Health page. At the top I have 4 KPI cards showing anomaly counts. Below them I have an Anomaly Alert Table.
I want users to click on a KPI card and have the Anomaly Alert Table below filter to show only records — similar to how filter actions work on bar charts and donut charts.
However, when I go to Properties → Interactions → Actions on a KPI visual, I don’t see an option to add filter actions. It seems like KPI visuals don’t support click-based actions.
My questions:
Is there a way to make KPI visuals clickable with filter actions in QuickSight?
If not, is this feature planned for a future release?
What is the recommended workaround? Currently I’m using a dropdown filter control, but the client wants a simple click-on-the-number experience.

Filtering actions can be applied to KPI’s, however they require a field to be added in the trend group; and that would be the only field you can set the filter on.
AWS does not disclose information about their current roadmap so I would be unable to say if expanding this functionality is in their future plans.
In regards to a work around; it may depend a bit on how your data is setup but you could try adding your anomaly type as your trend group. Otherwise you can build a visual (like a bar chart), then make a number formatting updates to the visual so that you can only see the data label.
So move the data label inside the bar; then you can set the bar color to the same color as your dashboard’s background. Hide all options in the x and y axis. You can then change your data label value to be larger and look more similar to a KPI. That way you can still use the filtering action.
Hey @jairusgonzales619 ! Like @Brett mentioned, KPIs themselves don’t support click actions yet. Can you show an anonymized version of what you are trying to do or share more on how your data is structured?
Something I’ve done in the past was layer a table that I formatted to a single cell onto the top corner of a KPI visual using the free form layout option. You would create a calculated field that would be something like =’Filter Button’ and apply that as the only field in the table. You apply the click action to the table and that allows the user to click on the KPI as if it had a click action. Not exactly the “click on the number” from your question but should be close.
I can try creating an example in arena if that would help visualize this as well.
