SAP BO to Quick Sight converter

Hi All,

  1. Just wanted to know, is there any converter where we can convert SAP BO reports to Quick Sight.
  2. If not what are the steps to consider while migrating SAP BO reports to Quick Sight

Hi @Kumar - Welcome to AWS Quick Sight community and thanks for posting the question. I believe there is NO direct converter to migrate SAP BO to Quick Sight. You have to follow some of the migration principles.

  1. Identify the data sets, see any calculated or derived fields are used in SAP BO reports or not.
  2. Prepare plan for report migration, start with easy one so that it can be created in Quick Sight easily and the functionality of Quick Sight can be easily understandable.

Quick Sight is a good visualization tool and it should have most of the feature like SAP BO, you have to start creating it from scartch and replicate it.

Hi @Kumar - Automatic converters are difficult to find and rarely work to good results across the board. It also depends on the BI product and how they export their assets. For example, Tableau exports everything in xml. That allowed some of our Partners create automations converting the xml to Quick Sight. If SAP BO exports in a similar fashion it may be possible to automate this.

Typically customers that go through the same process as you will engage a AWS Partner (Slalom, Deloitte etc) to handle the migration and convert the dashboards from SAP BO to Quick Sight. Typically the process is manual because in many cases the functionality and features are not like for like. Doing an assessment of the current and future states will be required.

Hi @Kumar - To be honest “It depends” however you can have a look on the demo central platform of AWS Quick Sight community where you can get some sample dashboard and explore more how it has been created. It is a good start to understand the Quick Sight capabilities.

I have some hands-on experience on creating Quick Sight reports and dashboards.
I need inputs more interms of migrating from BO to Quick Sight where are there any steps to expedite the process fast.

@Kumar - I have worked with many different BI tools (Qlik, Tableau, PowerBI, Quick Sight). Typically a migration from one to the other requires manual effort. The BI developer who has built or maintains the current dashboards in BO will have to re-build them in Quick Sight.

With a limited number of dashboards the process is relatively straightforward. But if you have tens or hundreds that’s where the need for Partner comes in to help you scale. Hope this helps.
