Session / Pricing - Optimal solution

Hi,

We are looking to display some dashboards on some Office wall TV’s and just wondering what would be the best strategy in terms of pricing for these.

We have 3 PC’s in different departments. Each PC would maybe have 2-3 separate dashboards that we would rotate between, so maybe 6-9 dashboards total. My initial thought was to have one user across all PC’s to access only these dashboards, either manual setup or some automated setup.

Is that the correct way to do this without having an app/website to embed the dashboards in?

Now on pricing, as per my understanding, a session is a 30 minute time period to view the dashboards, so 2 sessions per hour per dashboard, for 10 hours a day and maybe 21 days a month is 420 sessions per month per dashboard. So for 6 dashboards would be 2,520 sessions and currently at $0.50 per additional session (after 500 sessions) would be $1,260 per month.

Would swapping to user pricing bypass the above as it would just be one user and do they have unlimited session capability? or is that against the T’s & C’s?

I have tried to follow the documents and pricing page but haven’t found the answers.

Any questions and please just ask, many thanks.

Hi @riley.anderson and welcome back to the Quick Community!

Per-user Reader pricing I think might be the way to go here. Under Quick Sight Enterprise Edition, a Reader is a flat $3/month per user with no session charges on top. So one Reader account across all three PCs would run you $3/month total, versus the ~$1,260/month you estimated under capacity pricing. Your capacity pricing math checks out, but that model I believe is more for embedded apps with large anonymous user bases, not a small fixed setup like yours.

For the actual setup, you’d provision a single Reader, log into the Quick Sight console on each PC’s browser and bookmark your dashboard URLs. Just keep in mind the console session will time out after a period of inactivity, so maybe something like a browser extension or simple script to periodically reload the page could be a solution for that.

I believe you should be fine to run the same reader account across multiple devices, but you can double check with AWS Support to be sure.

Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions!

Hi @JacobR,

Thank you for your response.

Yes, I do actually have it setup on one TV already, just wasn’t sure about having multiple devices with the same login and also if it was just the overall best solution. Yes, we have a browser extension to cycle through tabs/dashboards and on tab cycle it also refreshes the tab on load, that has been working fine and never timed out. Just with the increase in sessions we will see, I do think user pricing will be the way forward, I will just get it clarified via AWS Support that the solution doesn’t break the T’s and C’s in anyway.

Many thanks,

Riley
