A way to hide/show filter

Hi,

I hope you are well and looking for help. I am keen for option option if this feature does not exists. On the report i have 30+ filters and they take lots of space. I wondered if there is a way to either hide them in a group type/accordion per filter category. Another way for me to displat 10 filters and if the user wants to filter more, they have like a dropdown where they can select other filters they can filter by. I hope someone will be able to suggest a way around that
Thanks

Hi @vini1
you can add rules (with parameter) to controls/filters.

you could use a parameter “showall (y/n)” and add a rule to 20+ filter. so if “n” you only see the first 10 and with “y” you could show the rest.
or you also can use the controls area (top of the sheet)

Hi @vini1

Hi Erik,

Thanks for the info that was helpful. Also the situation is that we have many filters but do not want to show all of them. Is there a way that the user can select the filters to view and based on the selection, we show those selected filters ? Will it use the same principle as you mentioned earlier ?

Vincent

Hi @vini1

While I don’t know your exact requirement 30+ filters looks a bit too much. Have you explored Actions on the visuals so they interact between visuals and help users analyse data and get to things they were seeking to find out.

In some of my use cases I found this to be useful. Just a suggestion.

You mean?
Select area: energy show filter C+D
Select area: health show filter E+F
Could work. But if you will show different filter based on a filter, why not using different sheets instead?

Hi,

Thanks for the info and perhaps by me providing more context it can be helpful. We capture data and the analysis is to compare a group of patients vs another group of patients. The group of patients can be filtered by the end user. For each group there will be different filters based on the patient’s profile and this is where the analysis will come. However when we have 2 groups of analysis on the same sheet it takes a lot of space and hence why we were looking at a way to show less important filters if the user wants to drill the data more down the line. The filters that are less important will have minimal data as they are optional fields when we capture them. Looking at the kibana BI tool, they have a way where the user can search for any parameters using a query and that would have been handy. However since this is not possible in Quickshight i am looking at other options to perhaps have an accordion to show and hide or other ways.

Regards

Vincent

Hi @vini1,
I believe that the best option that is currently available for this scenario would be to create parameters for the filter options that are less important and hide them in the control bar at the top of an analysis sheet. That way, if users would like to use the additional filters, they can expand the control panel and see the extra filtering options.

Since the ability to setup filters that are hidden and then show when prompted is not an available feature, I’ll mark this as a feature request to promote visibility to the support team.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, otherwise, if we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close out this topic.

Thank you!
