Account Name error: "Invalid Account Name

We have a company Quicksight account linked to our AWS account. One of our clients has ‘Reader’ permission to access their dashboards in our account. The client has been getting the error “Invalid Account Name” when attempting to log into Quicksight. I’ve gone ahead & reset the password and even removed the user & reinvited them again, but the same error appears every time. What could cause the error and how do I fix the problem? The client does not have IAM access to our AWS.

hi @Rushane_Johnson,

if the dashboard link has directory_alias in parameter, it won’t prompt to input account name. but if not, it requires to input the account name. the account name is one configured when QuickSight account setup where you can find under person icon on the top right.

typically when the dashboard link is shared from ‘Copy link’ on Share dashboard page, directory_alias parameter is included.

Hi @Rushane_Johnson - Welcome to AWS QuickSight and thanks for posting the question. Is it possible to share the screenshot ( Error). Like @Wakana mentioned, the correct QuickSight account name is available in the right hand side of quicksight page. It is NOT same as the aws account details.

I am puzzled because it used to function correctly. Here’s how I set it up initially:

  1. I invited the client as a reader, and they accepted the invitation, gaining access.
  2. Subsequently, I shared the different dashboards with them following Wakana’s suggestions.
  3. The client successfully accessed and viewed the dashboards.

The issue arose when the client attempted to access the dashboards again after a few months. The account name being used is accurate and in the following format: aws-companyname-quicksight. Despite this, Quicksight displays the ‘invalid account name’ error, and I am unsure of the reason behind this.

are you saying that the same dashboard URL link got accessed successfully a few months ago is getting invalid account error? if so, I would recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details so that we can help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case.
