Bookmarks are lost when updating and publishing the dashboard

I found a similar issue that was posted here: Losing existing bookmarks

But there was no resolution.
I update dashboard using definition. Once the new version is published, the bookmarks created by users are lost.

Any resolution?

Hi @alltej,

Did your dashboard id change? The bookmarks are tied to the dashboard id.

@David_Wong

The dashboard id did not change. it’s an update to an existing dashboard so it is a call to the update-dashboard api using the definition parameter.(not template)

Are the bookmarks tied to the version number of the dashboard?

This is not an issue when updating dashboards via template.
Updating via definition, the bookmark configuration/parameters gets lost.
We have to redeploy our dashboards back to template and that restores the bookmarks back.
But we need to discontinue the template approach because of cross-account dependency.
So I think is a bug when deploying via definition.

Please let us know if you find a solution.

Thank you!

Hi @alltej,
It’s been awhile since last communication on this thread, are you still encountering the same issue or were you able to find a work around?

I haven’t encountered this issue regarding bookmarks, but to my understanding, bookmarks are tied to specific versions of the dashboard. So when changes are made (and re-published) it’s viewed as a ‘new version’ which may affect the bookmark.

One work around you could explore would be to create a new dashboard copy after making updates instead of re-publishing. That may allow old bookmark’s to continue working.

From looking at the post that you linked originally, it looks like the user may have had success creating a support ticket, which may be your best bet as well to get more in depth support!

If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close out this topic.

Thank you!
