Can Date (Calendar) Be Restricted in Amazon QuickSight to Only Show Last 6 Months or 1 Year?

Hi everyone,

I had a question regarding date controls in Amazon QuickSight.

Is it possible to restrict the Date (calendar) filter so that users can only select dates going back up to a defined range — for example, only the last 6 months or 1 year — instead of being able to scroll back to the full historical dataset?

The goal is to:

  • Improve user experience by preventing overly large date selections

  • Avoid performance impact from very wide time ranges

  • Enforce reporting boundaries aligned with business policy

I’m aware that relative date filters (like “Last 12 Months”) can be applied at the visual or dataset level, but I’m specifically interested in whether the interactive calendar control itself can be limited so users cannot select dates outside a predefined window.

If anyone has implemented this — either via dataset-level filtering, parameter-driven logic, or another approach — I’d appreciate your insights.

Thank you,

Shravya

Hi @shravya,
Unfortunately the date controls have little flexibility on how they can be displayed; limiting the availability of dates can not be set standardly. Similarly, you can’t change the years that are available to be based on your data, it defaults to the last 20 years (so if you have more data, it won’t show those years. You would have to click on the oldest year available and then manually flip back by month to get further back.

I agree that new features for date controls/filtering would be extremely useful and could really add to the overall user experience so I’ll mark this as a feature request!
