Can we incorporate a dropdown menu within the dashboard, enabling users to select the specific metrics they wish to view?

Can we add a dropdown box in the dashboard so that users can select the metrics they want to view? I understand that Tableau allows for this functionality quite easily, but I’m curious to know how it can be achieved within Quicksight.

Hi @Phillip_Le,

While it’s a bit different than the functionality in Tableau, there is a work around that can be explored in this scenario.

When you’re publishing your dashboard, select the ‘more settings’ option and turn on ‘Ad Hoc Filtering’:

Then, on the visual in your dashboard, users will now have the ability to view the filters that are currently assigned to the visual as well as add a new one from the available fields in the dataset:

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

Thanks! But I’m more focused on how I can allow users to filter the metrics to view. By default, you see my first screenshot with all those metrics on the view, but I want to allow users to select or remove the ones they want to see specifically. How can I do that in QS? @Brett

Hi @Phillip_Le,

Ah, I see; so you’re looking to essentially setup an interactive visual that allows users to choose the fields being shown in the visual. Unfortunately this is currently a limitation within Quick Sight; Dashboards do not allow visuals to be edited outside of the how they can be filtered, like shared above. Visual changes like field selection can only be handled in the analysis.
The only other work around that could be implemented here would be to build multiple visuals in your analysis that contain different fields; then use a parameter control to hide and show the respective visual through the use of rules.
Though by the looks of your sample list, this may not be achievable as this would be for a scenario where only dealing with a couple variables.

I’ll mark this as a feature request to promote visibility to the AWS support team.

Can I submit a TT or how can I track the feature request?

Hi @Phillip_Le,

You can submit a support ticket, although this is more commonly used in the case of system bugs:

While AWS does not disclose information or time tables on their current roadmap, you can follow the ‘What’s New’ Section of the community for any updates that are made.
