In a KPI where you have a trend group (other than a date field), the text of the trend group item appears in grey and I can’t seem to change it. As our theme has a dark background, it can be hard to read. Is there a way to change this colour?

I played around with the theme editor and the KPI menu format options for text and was not able to change that text either. I believe that option is not currently available in the UI.
I will mark this as a feature request for the Quicksight team!
