Creating alerts in QuickSight

Hello,

Goal :-

As shown in the attached snapshot, our goal is to set up alerts when a price point (specifically, the minimum shelf price) changes over time.
In this case, we want to monitor week-over-week changes in the Min Shelf Price for specific SKUs.

We are referring to the official AWS documentation:

I have few doubts regarding it -

  1. Can we create alerts based on changes in a value over time (e.g., compare the min shelf price for SKU X in Week 1 vs Week 2)?

  2. Do we need to manually create a separate alert for each SKU ( As seen in Image 1) , and for each one select Latest week under date_collected to make the alert dynamic and apply to future incoming data ( As seen in Image 2)?

Or is there a way to apply this alert once for all SKUs so that QuickSight can track all SKUs dynamically without setting alerts one-by-one per SKU?

  1. Is it possible to notify a distribution list or multiple email recipients, or are alerts limited to the user who created them?

  2. Is there a way to automate alerts for new data as it comes in (e.g., weekly shelf prices), or do we have to manually set alerts each time every week?

Looking forward for best solution to achieve this goal.

Thank You !

Hi @Nikhilburhade

I tried the alerts some time back.

  1. The alerts work on a cell by cell basis. So you need to define the rule for each single combination ( SKU, Time Period combination)
  2. You can use a distribution ist or multiple email receipients.

So it is useful if you are tracking some KPIs but not for detailed items.

Hello @Giridhar.Prabhu

Thank You for the quick revert.

As seen in above image

  1. I have only my email ID by default under Email section , Can you please guide how to involve distribution list or multiple email recipients here ?

  2. I’d like to confirm the difference in behavior between selecting “Latest week” and a specific week (e.g., Week of Mar 2, 2025) under the date_collected field while setting up a QuickSight alert.

If I select “Latest week”:

  • Will this make the alert dynamic, so that it always tracks the most recent week’s data as it becomes available?
  • For example, if I set a threshold of $1000 for a particular brand’s shelf price, and the shelf price crosses that amount in the 3rd week of April 2025, will I receive an alert — even though I originally set it in March — because I chose “Latest week”?

If I select a specific week (e.g., Week of Mar 2, 2025):

  • Will the alert only monitor that exact week, and not consider any future data?

I’m looking to track ongoing shelf price changes for upcoming weeks, so I want to confirm that using “Latest week” is the right approach for future-facing, automated alerts.

Thank You !

Hi @Nikhilburhade

I went back to my test exercise that I had done a few months back and here is my corrected feedback.

  1. The alerts have to be setup by the users themselves. It is not something you set up and send emails to a group of users. So it is on an individual user basis. So, I was wrong earlier. You can not set alerts for a group
  2. I checked a case where a date exists in the pivot and it provides me the latest day option; while I haven’t tested this it appears that for the date field along QuickSight appears to be able check for latest day in your dataset. But that still does not entirely dynamic as it is still for a single cell for your SKU selected.
  3. Latest day does seem to make things flexible and you should test it with a test case.

Please remember to check on the cost involved. Each time the alert is triggered there is an associated cost involved. So it is important to understand what would be the cost before finalizing to use the alerts.
