Dashboard permissions removed intermittently?

We have observed some strange behaviour with some of our dashboards. It would seem that the permissions of the dashboard are being revoked for certain users intermittently. They lose access to the dashboard. After checking multiple possible caused (AAD groups, license, user type etc.) we’ve not found a reason why they can’t see it.

the only way to grant access to the dashboard is to re-share the asset from the QuickSight console. This seems very odd. We are embedding our dashboards, but that doesn’t affect the dashboard permissions (or at least, it shouldn’t !)

Where are there detailed logs for QuickSight - there doesn’t seem to be anything obvious in CloudWatch or CloudTrail where we can see the permissions being changed. Maybe these kind of events aren’t captured at all or are buried deep somewhere !

I see you have performed an awesome job troubleshooting the issue and I am sorry that you are facing this.

If you cannot find any UpdateDashboardPermissions event in CloudTrail in the region where QuickSight is deployed, I would recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details so that we can help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case. If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf. Hope this helps!
