Data Modelling

Hi All, I am new to QS, but i have an 3 yrs experience in Power bi. I have some Questions about data modeling / relationships / fact tables vs Dimension tables connectivity.

So, pls tell me

  1. Can I connect ( i mean can we give relationships between ) Fact tables & Dimension Tables like Power BI

  2. Can we create simple tables like reference tables ( create sample tables in Power bi )

  3. Basically, in PBI, attributes from dimension tables like Category, Product name, Product color placed in the visuals, Summation columns / calculation fields from Fact tables placed in the visual - Dim table filters fact table ---- is that possible in AWS QS?

  4. How the these joins work when it comes to calculations point of view ( Ex, Sales Table, Customer table, Date Table - Date key columns is present both S & Date tables + Customer Key Present in S & C tables. In a Table visual , I want to show, Date hierarchy ( year, Quarte, Month Name from Date table ) + Customer Region from Customer Table + Sales from S tables --Pls don’t say merge above 3 tables like having 1 independent table

  5. I have A & B independent tables ( mean 2 datasets ). Let’s say, I have Created AA & BB visuals based on each dataset, But here is the thing, when i click on AA visual, A table is showing up in the dataset A not B similarly same for the visual BB, only showing up B dataset. I want to see all the tables/datasets irrelevant of visuals clicking like Power BI?

  6. Pls mentions all the current limitations of the above questions ASAP. It would be very helpful.

Moreover, I have to develop the same Power bi Dashboard ( 15 tables connected to each other like 1 - *, * - 1, * - *, 1 - 1 relationships ) in QS. What are the best suggestions/ways to implement the same dashboard in AWS QS?

  1. If you mention possibility of merging of above tables from 15 to 5 ( Not sure from client side whether they do or not ). What i have to do?. Simply say not possible to create such dashboard due to it’s limitation currently.

Hi @Venkat.Metadata

  1. Yes, you can join different tables
  2. Not direct within QS. You need to create a csv or use a other datasource
  3. Yes
  4. What is the question here?
  5. That is not possible. Because you only can use the same dataset within a visual therefore it doesnt make sense to show the other datasets. If you need A and B datafields in the same visual you need to join them.

By “15 tables connected” you mean joined? If so, just join 15 tables in QS. If you would like to use the same logic.

I would also suggest to have a look at learning-center

Hi @Venkat.Metadata,
It’s been awhile since we last heard from you, did you have any additional questions regarding your initial post?

If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll go ahead and close out this topic.

Thank you!

Pls close it. Thanks for your information
