Decimal-Fixed option in the "new" dataset experience

Hi, I have a SPICE dataset which was created using the “new” dataset experience. It’s financial data, and because it’s defaulted to floating storage, I’m getting silling precision issues in my outputs (currency values with lots of decimal places kind of thing).

I know how to get around this in the “legacy experience” - I can simply change my field’s storage method to Decimal-Fixed - but I cannot find this option anywhere in the new experience, nor will it let me switch this particular dataset back to said experience.

Help me find the option!

Hi @Jerb,

In the top section, you can add a step to the process for ‘change data type’:

And then down in the bottom section, you’ll have the option to switch your field over to ‘decimal’.

Let me know if this is what you’re looking for!

Hmm no. That was the first place I looked, but it doesn’t have the granularity the “legacy experience” does.

My column already is a decimal field, but (in legacy parlance) is Decimal-Float (the bad kind which is prone to introducing precision errors - my data is financial, so imprecise floating-point precision is very undesirable) and I’d like to switch to Decimal-Fixed.

My workaround in this case was to recreate the dataset from scratch as a “legacy” dataset and switch all my reports to point to that one.

Of course now I have the worry that the legacy expeience will at some point be deprecated and I’ll lose access to this functionality altogether….

Hi @Jerb,

Understood, thank you for the further clarification. To my understanding, there are still a couple features from the legacy experience that have not yet been implemented in the new experience, but are still planned to be implemented. I’ll tag this as a feature request to highlight this aspect of the features as well.
