I am trying to add a date drilldown to an analysis. I am sure the field is a date field.
Whey trying to do the same in the built-in examples, I do not get the drill controls either!
What am I doing wrong?

Date fields cannot be added in a drill-down in the Analysis. But the reason is that you can directly select the level of aggregation for a date field in the dashboard once it is published (just click on any bar in the histogram):
