Emogi in String data field not being detected for all records

Hey All,
I have pulled data from MySQL into Quicksight, wherein the ‘title’ column has emogi’s as well.

But emogi is reflected in one of the title only, for the rest it is showing ‘?’ in place of emogi.

How do I get this solved???

Thanks,
Ummehaani

Hey All,
To store the emoticons in MySQL we have used utf8mb4 character set and then fetched into Spice.
I want to know which character set is supported for emoticons in Quicksight?

Thanks,
Ummehaani

Hey @emilyzhu,@seanboon,@robdhondt
Could anyone please help me understand, how emoticons work in QS.
I am running short of time and need to get this resolved ASAP.
Please help!

Thanks

Hi @Ummehaani, sorry for the late reply. I don’t have a answer to this question. But I already ping the engineer team to dig into it and hopefully will provide you some updates soon.

Hi @Ummehaani, can you try to switch to direct query mode when you create dataset and see if anything changed? We have some guess, but wonder if you can test it for us. Thanks!

Hey @emilyzhu ,
I tried changing the query mode from Spice to Direct query.
But its, still the same…emogi displayed as ‘?’

Can you paste the character that you want to be displayed here or provide UTF-8 code for it? Do you see the character listed here Full Emoji List, v14.0 ?

How is the data inserted/stored in MySQL? Do you know if it is stored correctly? For example, there can be issues like the one described in this thread Unicode characters being replaced by question marks after copy and paste on Windows - Super User that prevent data from being stored correctly in the database.

Hi @Ummehaani. Has this been resolved? If so, please help the community by marking the appropriate post as “Solution”. If you still need assistance, please provide additional detail. Thanks!
