We are encountering an issue with Amazon QuickSight where an error appears in visualizations corresponding to selected datasets stating:
"Dataset or data source was deleted or became unavailable while Amazon QuickSight was ingesting the data into SPICE. You can import the data to try again."This error occurs, despite the fact that:
The datasets and underlying data sources still exist and are functioning as expected.
The datasets are being incrementally refreshed daily without any manual intervention. No issue found in data uploads in s3 buckets either.
When publishing dashboards, data displays correctly, but fails to appear in the analysis view.
SPICE capacity is set to Auto-purchase, so there is no shortage of capacity.
Creating a new dataset from the same database works fine, indicating the source itself is not the issue.
However, we cannot simply recreate the datasets, as numerous analyses are built upon the existing ones. This issue is affecting our ability to update and maintain existing QuickSight analyses, which are critical to our reporting.Steps Taken So Far:
Verified dataset and data source availability.
Confirmed that data refresh is occurring as scheduled.
Checked SPICE capacity settings.
Created new test datasets from the same source, which work as expected.
Attempted to republish dashboards.
We would appreciate assistance in identifying the root cause and restoring full functionality to the affected datasets without requiring us to rebuild dependent analyses.
Hello @priyanka2, welcome to the QuickSight community!
This issue may best be resolved through a support ticket with AWS.
Here are the steps for opening a support ticket - Creating support cases and case management - AWS Support . If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf
I can try to provide some assistance though depending on the situation. I see that your data is stored in S3, so is the data source you are using an Athena connection or are you bringing in tables from S3 with a manifest file connection?
How often are you running the dataset refreshes? Is there a certain refresh time that is causing the issue more often than others?
It is really interesting that only the analysis is failing to display, but not the dashboards. That is the main part of this issue that makes me think the support ticket will be the best way to find a solution.
Have already raised a support ticket. Just wanted to know if anyone has faced this before and can help.
To answer your questions -
yes, we are importing data from Athena.
The refreshes are run daily. Every dataset refreshes 15 mins after the other everyday. - So no particular time thats causing the issue. We checked doing a manual refresh aswel. No error during refresh, only when in analysis
Hello @priyanka2, I totally understand and I wish I had more information on this but I have not had the same experience when working with Athena. When are you updating the source data in S3 that Athena is querying? Maybe there is something happening in S3 at the time of the refresh that is causing an issue. It might be worth trying a different refresh time in QuickSight to see if that alleviates any of the problems you are facing.
