Filter value doesn't reset

Hi,

after using a dashboard and choosing set of filters, I’m not able to reset the filter to its original values.
No matter what I do - reset the filter itself, reset the whole dashboard, clear browsing data etc.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Ami

Hi @amico - The same topic is discussed in the below link as well. You have to reset the filters manually and automatic refresh is happen in 24 hours.
The ‘Dashboard Auto Refresh’ feature is only available if you use QuickSight Capacity Pricing (see the language that says “Capacity pricing is also required for programmatic refresh of dashboards for near real-time data rendering”).

Thank you.
The problem is that even so I reset the filter within the dashboard,
I get the same values I got in the last choice I made.
For example:
I approached to city filter → picked values London and Paris → got the results → closed the webpage.
Re-entered again to the dashboard → the same values appear in the city filter, Paris and London.
When I reset, it still leaves the values as it was before, Paris and London.
No default values for this filter.
I also cleared cookies & browsing history and nothing really changed.
I’ll appriciate your assistance.
Thanks again!

Hi @amico - Is it possible to raise a ticket to AWS Customer support team to show case this symptom so that they can analyze it by screenshare. In parallel, let me also check from my end. To raise the ticket, please follow the link - Creating support cases and case management - AWS Support

Hi @Koushik_Muthanna @Karthik_Tharmarajan @Max @David_Wong @eperts - Any advise on this. Looks like there are so many queries on the filter reset in dashboards, can we have a detail documentation on this to have a clear understanding.

Hi @amico ,

Here are few things to consider.

  1. You said there are no default values set. However, cross check if you had set the filter in analysis to specific cities ahead of publishing. The filter control state in the analysis is the default filter control state for the dashboard. This is what the control returns to when you reset it in the dashboard.

  2. Dashboards have state persistence - If you change city filter control to London & Paris, then close out of the dashboard / navigate to another dashboard, your last selection is saved and you will see the same selection the next time you open the dashboard.

State persistence is why you saw London & Paris as the selection when you returned to the dashboard.
If you analysis filter control was set to London & Paris at dashboard publish time, it would explain why you still continued to see London & Paris when you tried to reset the dashboard filter.

Republish the dashboard after making sure that the analysis filter control is set to All, then try the following

  • select a city, leave & return to the dashboard (you should see prior selected city)
  • select a different city, leave & return (you should now see the newly selected city)
  • Reset the filter control (You should see All values selected)

If you are not able to get the above experience, proceed with opening a support ticket.

Thanks @ArunSanthosh for the details. So it is always advisable to set the filter to All in analysis and then publish the dashboard ?

If you don’t want the dashboard to always default to a specific set of values, then All should be used.

Hi,

Is there a way to reset dashboard filters when leaving/closing the dashboard webpage?

Thanks,
Ami

Hi @amico,

If you make any changes to the dashboard filters, you will see a Modified suffix in the dashboard name. You can click the reset dashboard button at any time to return to original published state of the dashboard. If you have some filter combinations that you use on a regular basis, you can set bookmarks for them and can switch between bookmarked views. The bookmark panel will also let you revert to the original published view of the dashboard.
