I know when we add people to Quicksight they need to log in before we can add them to a dashboard, we use AD. Would that be the same process if we create Groups? If we link to the dashboard, would users need to log in each time or would it directly take them to the dashboard?

Yes, it would still be the same. As QuickSight requires login credentials to access information, you would need to login no matter the instance if you’d like to access a dashboard. The only work around for users to access a dashboard without logging in would be to embed, but there may be utilization limitations for your case.
