[HELP ! ] Why is it so difficult to create a rank?

Hi guys

I need to rank the highest financial value by month and category. I’ve been trying for a week, but without success. For example, I need to rank the highest value by category, and when I change the month, the rank is reset.

Example:

Month | category | sum(value) | rank

01/2025 | A | 1000 | 1
01/2025 | B | 700 | 2
…

02/2025 | C | 5000 | 1
02/2025 | A | 2300 | 2
02/2025 | B | 200 | 3
…

03/2025 | A | 3600 | 1
03/2025 | B | 3000 | 2
…

Does the value change when you change month?
I see you have specified the requirement as rank value by month and category.

Kindly share a snip of the expected values and the current output and the calculated field you are using now to compute the rank.

I used the calculated field:

denseRank
(
[ {month} ASC, sum({value}) DESC , {category} ASC]
,[ {month} ]

The ranking output is not respecting the month, it is coming out like this:

Month | category| sum(value) | rank
01/2025 | A | 1000 | 1 (must be 1)
01/2025 | B | 700 | 2 (must be 2)
…

02/2025 | C | 5000 | 3 (must be 1)
02/2025 | A | 2300 | 4 (must be 2)
02/2025 | B | 200 | 5 (must be 3)
…

03/2025 | A | 3600 | 6 (must be 1)
03/2025 | B | 3000 | 7 (must be 2)

I need the ranking to reset every month. How to do it?
