Hi, I have been running into an issue with filters. Say I have columns for Geo, Region, and Country in my dataset. There are values called “ALL” in all three columns that essentially say an offering is classified in all geos/all regions/all countries. The data looks like something like this:
I have three filters that also correspond to each of the different geo/region/columns. What my users want is to be able to select any country in the country filter (ie. Japan) and my dashboard to automatically pull any offerings that are classified in Japan but also any countries that are classified as “ALL” in country as well. However, they would only want to see relevant “ALL” solutions dependent upon the region + geo. So for example in the Japan example, they would want to see offerings with taxonomy:
| APJ | ANZ | Japan |
| APJ | ANZ | ALL |
| APJ | ALL | ALL |
because these are the only relevant offerings that are technically offered in Japan. They want the same capability for region and geo. However, the problem I am running into is that when I apply an “Or” condition on the country filter, it is pulling “ALL” values regardless of what the Region or Geo value is (ie. for the Japan example it would pull | NAMER | United States | ALL | which is not related at all to Japan). Is there a way to manipulate the data or the filters to get what I want? thanks for the help in advance
Hi @grazhang,
It sounds like you essentially would like the controls to show relevant values in reverse as well as the normal way they operate? So, although ‘Country’ is the 3rd portion in your relevant value setup; when you select the Country, it does not filter down the first 2 controls (Geo and Region).
Is this a correct interpretation of what you are trying to achieve? If so, unfortunately QuickSight does not currently support that type of control filtering. I can mark this as a feature request though to promote visibility to the support team.
If you’re looking to complete something different, feel free to correct and I can re-evaluate potential options!
Hi @grazhang,
I’m not quite sure I understand your last statement, if you want ‘ALL’ to be returned in the country section..where are you selecting ‘Japan’?
The best option here to assist further may be setting up a copy of your analysis with anonymized data in the QuickSight Arena view. If able to do that, you can follow steps on how to setup below:
Hi @grazhang,
Following up here as it’s been awhile since we last heard from you on this thread; are you still working on this scenario or were you able to find a work around in the interim?
If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close out this topic.
Hi @grazhang,
