Nested Filter Question

I’m working with a transaction level dataset that contains product sales by customer by order date. I’m looking to add a nested filter that will filter out customers who’ve purchased a certain product within a certain date range. To do this i’ve created a nested filter on customer with qualifying condition set to include and nested filter condition for product set to exclude. When i add the control for this filter to my report it does not work. I presume this is because since the dataset is transaction level, there are existing records for each customer already which do not include the product i’m filtering out. I’m also filtering for a certain time period. How do i use this feature to get a list of customers who have not purchased a certain product? I followed the documentation and am not getting the correct result.

@dspringer ,

Did you follow through our blog examples ? Build a market basket analysis dashboard using nested filters in Amazon QuickSight | AWS Business Intelligence Blog

Additionally could you use the Arena to create a dashboard with sample data and provide a few details on what the nested filtering should show vs not show ?

Kind regards,
Koushik

@dspringer ,

I cannot upload the dataset due to privacy concerns.

Do not upload your dataset, you can either create a dummy sample even with just 20 records if you can explain the issue , else the sample data can even be [https://ws-assets-prod-iad-r-iad-ed304a55c2ca1aee.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/cd8ebba2-2ef8-431a-8f72-ca7f6761713d/datasets/SaaS-Sales.csv ] , modify it a bit to your requirement and use the Arena.

Nested Filter Test

@Koushik_Muthanna see example with provided dataset. In this example i’m looking to include only customers where product does not equal alchemy but clearly still get customers where product equals alchemy.

@Koushik_Muthanna any ideas?

Hi @dspringer,
It’s been awhile since last communication on this thread, are you still encountering the same issue or were you able to find a work around?

If you’re still in need of help; to make sure I understand your use case correctly, you don’t want to filter your visual by dates, you just want it to filter out rows that are a certain product within that date range, correct?

If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll go ahead and close out this topic.

Thank you!
