Q&A from the Live session | New Feature: Topicless with Amazon Q

Answers generated from Webex transcript and chat interactions

Q: Is it possible to embed a Q question prompt within a dashboard and then use that in paginated reporting to get different users curated responses?

A: You can embed the Q&A piece through the QuickSight SDK. For paginated reporting integration, that’s not currently a supported feature.

Q: One issue we had with Q topics in the past is regarding fiscal calendars versus standard calendars. Have any improvements been made to make Q aware of custom fiscal calendars?

A: Currently there aren’t specific built-in capabilities to handle custom fiscal calendars. For more precise fiscal calculations, implementing custom logic in reporting tools is recommended.

Q: How do we provide more domain knowledge to train/instruct Amazon Q to answer specific questions regarding a dashboard?

A: For a better experience, it’s recommended to create a Q topic and work “under the hood” by adding synonyms, calculated fields and named entities to enhance the experience. While the topicless Q&A works better than before, using topics provides more control.

Q: Do you know if the new feature is available for both Author Pro (enabling it when publishing) and for Reader/Reader Pro (consuming and asking questions)?

A: It’s available for Author and Author Pro, but you need Author Pro license to create topics and access more advanced features.

Q: In case the topic has more than one dataset, how will Q know how to link them?

A: QuickSight uses data joining features to establish relationships between datasets through matching fields that serve as common identifiers. Q handles this automatically “under the hood”, but for more control over relationships between datasets, using topics is recommended.
