RE : Dataset and Dashboard update Sync

Hello,
I have a Dashboard where dataset is getting updated successfully but the analysis or the dashboard is not being updated. Also, the latest data between analysis and dashboard is different. i.e Dataset is the latest (30th august), analysis is 27th august and dashboard is 26th august. I am looking for something where all this dates can be aligned and have latest dates on all 3 of them.

Hi @parthprj

Can you please check the analysis filter and either refresh it manually, reset it, or disable the filter in the analysis so that you can see the updated data from the dataset.

Once the analysis is refreshed, re-publish the dashboard with the updated filter in the analysis. This will ensure the dashboard is updated with the latest analysis data.

Ensure the dataset is successfully updated. You can check this by navigating to the dataset in QuickSight and verifying the latest refresh date.

Hope this helps!

Hi,
Thanks for responding. Can you elaborate how to refresh analysis filter or how to disable the filter in analysis?
Thanks,
Parth

Hi @parthprj

If the filter control is added to the analysis, you can reset or refresh the filter or you can also disable the filters, as shown below.

So, what does disable filter does? I tried disabling and I am still able to filter?
Also, how is filtering corelated to data refresh? i.e how will refresh/reset/disable filters impact the latest data shouldn’t the data should be updated if I have scheduled the data set and if it runs successfully shouldn’t the data in the dashboard be updated as well?

Hi @parthprj

Disabling a filter in means temporarily turning off that specific filter so it no longer restricts the data displayed in your visuals. When a filter is disabled

  • The filter criteria are ignored and the data isn’t limited based on the disabled filter’s conditions.
  • If there are multiple filters applied, only the disabled one is ignored, others continue to restrict the data as configured.

If you’ve disabled a filter but still observe filtering behavior, consider the following possibilities:

  • Multiple Filters Applied: There might be other active filters affecting your data. Check for additional filters at different levels:
    • Visual-Level Filters: Specific to individual charts or visuals.
    • Analysis-Level Filters: Applied across all visuals within an analysis.
    • Dashboard-Level Filters: Applied to all visuals within a dashboard, when its published from analysis.

When you schedule a dataset refresh, it ensures that the dashboard reflects the most up-to-date data from your source(dataset). A successful dataset refresh updates the underlying data in your dashboard.

Filters only affect how the data is presented but don’t impact the actual data being refreshed. If you have a filter applied (enabled or disabled), the dataset will still be refreshed as per the schedule. Disabling or resetting filters won’t stop the data refresh from running.

Filters determine which subset of the dataset is displayed in your visuals. They do not alter the underlying data but control what portion is visible to the user.

Disabling a filter should stop that specific filter from restricting data in visual, to validate where you can see dataset, analysis and dashboard to be aligned with latest dates.

Please refer the below documentation this might be helpful for you.

Hope this helps!

Hi @parthprj,
It’s been awhile since we last heard from you; did you have any additional questions regarding your initial topic?

If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll go ahead and close out this topic.

Thank you!

Hi you can close it,
Thanks,
Parth
