Recreation of exisitng dashboards with new SPICE dataset

Hi all,

I currently have a situation where I have a dataset in SPICE which grown rather large in size and I’m looking to manage this more efftively. I have around 5-6 dashboards which link to this dataset at the moment. The data is currently stored in Athena and I have loaded this into spice.

The solution I’m looking at is creating a view in Athena which has streamlined the column usage (removing some unecessary columns not used in the analysis etc.), and I have reduced the lookback period to only two years (its currently higher than this in SPICE).

I will then load this data into SPICE, then create the relevant dashboard from this dataset.

My question is - how can use this streamlined dataset to re-create or update the 5-6 dashboards which currently leverage the larger dataset in SPICE, without having to manually re-create each dashboard, visual etc?

Is there any easy, perhaps systematic way to achieve this?

I have tried to add the smaller SPICE dataset to the existing analysis for existing dashboards, but it seems that I need to re-create each page using the smaller dataset. Having to do this across 6 dashboard will be rather time consuming as each has multiple tabs/pages.

My ultimate goal here is to use the smaller dataset in SPICE and release some of the capacity being used by the larger dataset.

Any help or links to page which may help are appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi @QSCommUser
did you try to replace the existing one?

hi @ErikG ,

What exactly do you mean by this?

In one of the existing analysis, which is now a dashboad - I have added the new SPICE dataset so that both large and small are available from the to left.

Are you saying I can just delete the large dataset from the “Dataset” options in the left? Then I can just use the smaller dataset here?

I have tried this, but the existing pages that are linked to the large dataset simply go blank. When I try to add a column/value to the analysis, I’m prompted to select a dataset, but it wont then allow me to put a column into the old analysis with the new dataset.

Thanks.

Hi @QSCommUser
no, there should be a replace option too. The three dots at the current dataset should show delete or replace.

Thanks for the reply.

I just tried this and it did not seem to work. I went through and confirmed all the columns when replacing with the smaller dataset, and selected ignore field on the redundant values.

When selecting from the filed list in the dataset - all of the fields whcih were available to be selected were showing from the replaced dataset (the larger one in this case) and did not show the new values from the new (smaller) dataset.

Perhaps I’m doing something wrong, but it seems I simply can’t just replace the dataset.

Hi @QSCommUser
maybe you can share some screenshots of the mapping and result part?

Hi @QSCommUser,
It’s been awhile since we have heard from you. Are you still having issues with your question or have you been able to resolve it? If resolved, please provide the solution that worked for you or mark a response above as the solution.

If you are still in need of assistance, please let me know and provide any information about tests you’ve run to work on this. If we do not hear back from you in 3 days, I will archive this topic.

Thank you!

Hi all,

Apologies for the delay.

I was having issues with simply replacing the dataset and as this was time critical, I ended up recreating a completely new dashboard with the smaller and refined dataset.

I appreciate this wasnt overly helpful, but I needed to get the new dashboard into production rather quickly.

Appreciate all the help.
