I recently started having an issue with the connection between MariaDB RDS databases and Quicksight. If the dataset has SPICE enabled, refresh of the data quickly fails with protocol_version error. If switch to Direct Query instead, it all works fine and I get fresh data from the DB. The problem however, is that I have datasets that combine data from multiple sources (which themselves are all direct query) and I don’t have the ability to switch off SPICE for those sources. The issue really started last Friday with a single connection/database, and since then has gradually started to impact more connections (All RDS MariaDB). Has anyone been experiencing something like that recently? Can’t seem to find anything about it on the web.

I will advise to submit a ticket to AWS customer support ( Link - Creating support cases and case management - AWS Support) and provide the ingestion ID. This will help AWS team to analyze the issue and understand the root cause.
