@jeremy - I found this but it’s specific to Redshift w Quicksight: Amazon QuickSight deployment models for cross-account and cross-Region access to Amazon Redshift and Amazon RDS | AWS Big Data Blog

Hi all. Please see the following update.

Thanks @todd.hoffman. Yes, saw that too. My question isn’t around multi-region support for backend data sources – it’s more around auto-failover for QuickSight account itself so that if I’m in QuickSight us-east-1 region, we could use us-west-1, etc. So a global deployment, much like you’d do in Amazon DynamoDB, etc.

That ^ I think works really well for data sources across regions. Although I’m sure it’s different for different data sources.

However, if you are looking to deploy across regions you will first need to establish a data source across regions/accounts.

In regards to deploying datasets/analysis/and dashboards we use CloudFormation.

Here is a syntactical guide for each resource in QuickSight.

A couple of things to note:

  1. In order to create an analysis in another region/account you need first create a template and share that template to the other region/account
  2. There needs to be a data source / datasets that can being used by the new analysis. You can create these with CloudFormation however the syntax / role will depend on the data source you are using.

Thanks @Max and then I assume there’s some syncing mechanism or API from QuickSight we’d need to leverage to replicate our dashboards/analyses/dataset definitions across the separate accounts that were in each region?

It wasn’t possible until today!

It’s not available in CloudFormation yet but there are APIs available now where you can now programmatically update analysis / dashboards!
