I have a scenario involving a Pivot Table visual where I’m using a hierarchy of dimensions: Region > Country > State, and my value columns include Hours, Dollars, and Amount.
What I’d like to achieve is the following:
Show subtotals only at the Country level
Display subtotals only for the “Amount” column
Leave the Dollars and Hours subtotal fields blank or hidden
In short, I want to customize subtotals to appear only for selected value columns, rather than all of them.
Currently, Amazon QuickSight does not provide a way to customize subtotals to appear only for selected value columns within a pivot table.
When working with pivot tables in QuickSight, you can customize which levels show subtotals by selecting “Custom” in the Level option under the Subtotal section in the Properties pane. Link
This allows you to choose specific fields in your hierarchy (like Country) to show subtotals.
For styling subtotals, QuickSight offers a control called “Apply styling to” which provides options including value only, entire row (header and value), and header only. Link
You can access these styling options by clicking on the visual, selecting the three dots in the left corner, clicking the Pencil icon, and finding the Subtotal section.Link
Additionally, QuickSight supports contextual subtotals in tabular layout, which can include the group name alongside subtotal labels to enhance clarity.Link
However, none of these features specifically allow for showing subtotals for only selected value columns (like showing subtotals only for “Amount” while hiding them for “Dollars” and “Hours”).
Hope this gives some insight and also clears any doubt
