Is it possible to restrict my spice capacity usage and prevent the storage usage from exceeding the free tier amount?

I don’t believe QuickSight will let you exceed the capacity. You have to purchase SPICE capacity before you can use it. If you reach the limit, your dataset refresh will fail and you’ll have to add more capacity.

I was actually charged for the additional spice capacity above 21GB free storage. As seen in the screenshot below, the spice capacity was exceeded by 516GB while i uploaded a data set beyond the limit. Do you know why this happen?

  1. Can you please confirm that you were actually charged for the Spice overcapacity?

  2. Is it possible that the owner of your AWS account has requested an exception to the Quicksight Spice quotas? To see your service quotas go here

  3. if you were charged but no exceptions where ever requested to your account, then we would recommend filing a case with AWS Support where we can dive into the details so that we can help you further. Here are the steps to open a support case. If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf.
