SPICE refresh fail - PerformExtract times out

I have converted an existing dataset from direct query to SPICE (to leverage join capability with file upload). However, the dataset is failing to extract the data and I’m unsure how to optimize it - I have excluded all unnecessary fields and set the timeframe to Year-1.
Are there any recommendations from the community?

Hi @Marianne_Parsik

I understand you are looking to join a file within a data set. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Is the data set edit page (data prep page) showing any errors after uploading the file? A screenshot would help understand the issue better.

Hi @rajjaya ,
Thanks for your feedback!
The data prep page is OK (only preview is timing out).
I believe the issue is with the per-existing data set, which I changed from direct query to SPICE (I need is as SPICE, since I Quicksight won’t allow direct query join with uploaded file) - the refresh fails and I have 0 rows imported.

Hi @Marianne_Parsik ,

Please check what the timeout settings for the datasource configured in direct query. For instance with Athena the default timeout is 30 min (via request to support you can have it extended).

I am marking this as a solution, but let us know if this is not resolved. Thanks for posting your questions on the QuickSight Community Q&A Forum!

Kind Regards,
