Stack area line chart bug?

Hi,

I have been trying to use the stack area line chart but it is not producing the results I want. This happens when I add negative values to my data set (I need to show positive and negative). See below:

The positive should have more, if I remove the negative side, it will show this:

Which is correct for the positive side.

If I change my stack area line chart to area line chart, it is correct:

However, I need my lines to be stacked.

The positive and negative values are coming from a few separate categories, and two of these categories have the same values except different positive and negative.

I noticed that there are orange dots inside the blue area - why are there dots there?

Appreciate for any advice or help, thank you!

Hello @dixerio, that does seem like some strange behavior. Is there any kind of filter you are applying the visual that could be impacted the data that is returned? I am curious why the positive numbers are only going up to 200 on the first chart but over 1,100 on the 2nd chart.

I created a QuickSight Arena with some fake data that we could use to test this out a bit, but I am not seeing any issues with the display currently:
Stacked Area Line Chart

If you would be able to create a version of this in Arena with anonymized data, that would make it even easier for me to debug the issue you are facing.

Something else I would be curious about is if you have customized the Range of the visual at all in the Y-Axis options:

Maybe something was done here that is causing an issue in the visual.

With some more information, I can help guide you further. Thank you!

Hi @DylanM

Thanks for your reply.

I have replicate this with dummy data. Please see here -

Test

Is this working as intended?

By the way, I have a question - if I have two categories, one called In and another called Out, In has 1000 and Out is -1000, will this cancel out in the chart (1000±1000 on a SUM aggregation)? How will it be display?

Hello @dixerio, I just tested out the visual in the analysis and it does look like this is some kind of visual bug. I don’t see anything that should be causing the issue, and you will even see the proper value for the To Building flow in the tooltip which is interesting. I think the best course of action would be to submit a support ticket.

Here are the steps for opening a support ticket - Creating support cases and case management - AWS Support . If your company has someone who manages your AWS account, you might not have direct access to AWS Support and will need to raise an internal ticket to your IT team or whomever manages your AWS account. They should be able to open an AWS Support case on your behalf

I will also tag this topic as a bug to flag it for our support team. Thank you and let me know if you have any further questions!

Thanks @DylanM .

Unfortunately I can’t submit a technical case unless I upgrade my plan. :frowning:

Hopefully the support team will look into this topic with your tag.

Hello @dixerio, if the requirement is time sensitive, I would try an alternate visual for now to display the information. Feature requests release times are not shared, but I have tagged this topic appropriately and I will archive it for our support team. Thank you!
