Not sure if this is possible but will ask it anyways -
I currently have two tables in my dashboard. One table shows averages of X by state. The second table shows average of X by county. The state table displays all the states in the dataset and the county table also displays all the counties in my dataset. I also have actions enables between both tables For example: If a user selects CA then the county table will filter to show only the counties in california.
1st question: Is there a way the counties table could be blank until a user selects a state. And only if a user selects a certain state the values will populate?
2nd question: could I have a default state selected in my table without a parameter created so that only those counties are displayed rather than all the counties in the US? the idea is to have customers use the table to filter and not a drop down using a parameter.
@ErikG thank you for your response. Unfortunately, when I do add county as a filter and select “filter List” it states “too many distinct values to be displayed”. I dont want a default selection but just a blank table unless a user selects a state from the state table and have it populate the county table.
@ErikG I can do that. But when I select a default in the county table, I cant use the state table to filter by. for example: If I add a state filter to the county table - and deselect all state fields, the county table will be blank. But then when I use the state table to filter by a particular state the county table still displays NULL. And I understand why that is happening. I don’t think this approach is allowing me to achieve my goal. Is there any functionality or calculated field that will populate a table based on a value selected from another visual?
@ErikG Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together. One thing I noticed, When I select a state from the drop down I do see that the county drop down updates to show relevant values and when you select a county the county table populates. However, is there a way where when I select a state, Example: California, the county table populates to display all the counties in California without having to select it from the drop down?
