Time readability in Scatter Plot

Is there anyway to improve the time readability in Scatter plot i.e. Can we make the data point have different opacity that spans between the oldest and newest dates?
Below is an sample of the Scatter Plot, where some data points are overlapping each other and its hard to rectify the latest data point as the dashboard is being updated on daily basis.

Please let me know if there is any possible solution for this. Thanks!

Hello @kmrshub, I have a few ideas on how you can improve the visual. First off, you could change the way the x-axis is scaled depending on the points you are plotting. You can update the range to Auto (based on data range) since it looks like your plotted points do not start until around 2,500. That should help display the visual in a better way.

You could also consider changing your color by field well to a value that will display different options rather than just a single group. The size and label fields could also be useful in adding readability to the visual. I think updating the range will be a big improvement though, so let me know if that helps!

Hi @DylanM thanks for your input in this.

The actual data plotting is as per the below image.

I have already changed the color by field well for different category.

Could you please let me know if there is any option available for color gradient / opacity which makes it easier for us to differentiate between the latest data point and older data point as per date? What I mean by that is if a data point is of current date, it should have a darker opacity, data point with yesterday’s date, it should have a lighter opacity as compared to the data point of current date and so on.

Hello @kmrshub, there isn’t an option for gradient/opacity here. Have you considered changing the visual type you are using or possibly filtering the visual by certain groupings of data? I think that is likely the best course of action to make a more meaningful visualization of the data.

Hi @DylanM thanks for the clarification regarding opacity/gradient. Yes, I did tried changing the visual type but results were not so favorable. I’ll try your suggestion of filtering the visual and will let you know.
Thanks for your help and time on this much appreciated.

Hello @kmrshub, that sounds great. Usually when my visuals start to look too cluttered but there isn’t an alternative option to display the data, then building out various groups through filters usually helps provide a better view for the reader. If you need any assistance on this process, please post a demo analysis version of this in QuickSight Arena and I can help guide you there. Otherwise, let me know if you have any remaining questions. Thank you!
