We are approaching 999 in two of our offices. Alternatives would be to create datasets (containing data not RLS data) by office instead of one dataset for all offices. Also, namespaces might be helpful. But increasing this 999 would definitely be our best solution.
Hi @cgreenacre,
Could you please share an anonymized example of how your RLS rules are defined to be able to understand why you are having the need for more than 999 rules per single user. Keep in mind that you can provide a list of values for each column within a single rule (See the “Segment” column example in the documentation).
Hey Thomas,
I was reviewing another query on this nature (One user having access to 7k territories) and that got me thinking about what would be the limit of the RLS rules column?
I suggested they breakup the 7000 into chuncks of 500 or so. But what really is the limit of the String field in QuickSight?
Hi @Giridhar.Prabhu,
One thing that often times also helps to reduce the number of values is to leverage a hierarchical structure - e.g. if thinking about territories having higher-level territories that group 100s or 1000s of territories into a couple overarching territories. Similar to how it is done with general geographical hierarchies where you could have NAMER->USA->California->San Francisco. In some cases these are natural hierarchies and in others those are being introduced artificially to also ease the management of permissions. Think also about how many users are sharing the same access to the 1000s of territories. Is that level of granularity really needed as it is that unique?
Hi @cgreenacre,
It’s been awhile since we last heard from you, did you have any additional questions regarding your initial post?
If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll go ahead and close out this topic.
Thank you!
