Broken Dataset

I am unable to upload the dataset (update by uploading new .XLXS file). following error message appears: No data available for preview.

QuickSight fetches up to 1000 sample rows from each data source table before applying transform operations. There are currently 0 rows of data available for preview as a result of the operations performed on sample rows of data. You may save the dataset and visualize all data from source in Analysis. It results in empty dataset. In preview, all columns look legit.

I am also able to upload identical .XLXS file as a new dataset and there everything looks as it should. So it seem like something broke, but no idea what. any ideas?

Hello @osmanagi , welcome to the QuickSight community!

When you say you are able to upload an identical file what do you mean? Are they the same dataset/file, do they share the same columns, and are they the same size?

It could be a few issue including the size of the file you are uploading.

The file is output of SQL query, I´ve been using the same job for months now.
Nothing´s changed, same columns, same columns order. Even preview looks ok, but ultimately the upload fails (see the error message above).
I can upload the SAME file as the new dataset, with exactly same structure, but in that case I´ll lose connected analysis and dashboards.

thanks!

When I try upload, it looks everything legit, in preview all columns are there.

Then I click “confirm”, for moment it says upload successful, but ultimately returns an error (all rows skipped). Please see 2nd snapshot.

Hello @osmanagi

Just to clarify, when you pull that dataset into an analysis, it also doesn’t return any data? The messages says it will still allow you to visualize data. Does it not let you save and publish the dataset at all?

You can also swap the old and new datasets on the analysis and everything is the same your dependent analyses should be fine.

It would allow me to complete the update, but I would end up with nothing to visualize, as all 207 rows are in error and I end up with zero rows :expressionless_face:

I guess I am best of replicating that dataset and use it in my analysis instead.

It´s just odd, that it broke suddenly.

Thank you for your support!

Hi @osmanagi,

Hope this message finds you well! I see that this thread has not received a response in a while. Were you able to find a solution to your question in the meantime? If not, I would also recommend to file a support case with AWS Support. Here are the steps to open a support case. If we do not hear back in the next 3 business days, I’ll close out of this topic.

Thank you!
