I can’t seem to locate a field in the Azure CID dataset that will help me derive the carried amortization. I can see this in the Azure Portal, but I need to separate out Amortization and Usage Costs in the Azure CID Dashboard. I’ve reviewed all the fields and I don’t see anything here that will help me do that from the default AWS provided Azure dataset feed. Has anyone did this?
Hi @usmitra, are you referring to this Cloud Intelligence Dashboard for Azure ?
I have never tried deploying this dashboard, but based on the the instructions given in the Prerequisites section, the contents of the dataset depends on the cost export you configure in the Azure side. Also further checking on Azure documentation, you must choose the cost and usage (FOCUS) template to include amortized spending.
Cost and usage details (FOCUS) - Select this option to export cost and usage details using the open-source FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification (FOCUS) format. It combines actual and amortized costs.
There is a particular deployment for FOCUS export in the above workshop. Have you tried this?
Hi @usmitra,
It’s been awhile since we last heard from you, did you have any additional questions regarding your initial post?
If we do not hear back within the next 3 business days, I’ll close out this topic.
Thank you!
This is still a bit unsolved because we’re not using the focus dataset for Azure. I’m using the dataset provided by the deployment of the AWS Azure Dashboard.
The Azure dataset gets a bit complicated. It has been a while since I have looked at it.
What is available in the exports depends on your Microsoft license. EA is different than MCA.
There is also configuration for the dashboard which needs to be done in the Azure console. The CID solution uses the blob-storage-to-s3 (that may not be the exact name) portion of the solution to connect to an Azure storage account. It expects that an Azure billing export exists in the storage account.
When configuring the export, you have a number of options which include actual-cost, amortized-cost, or focus.
Within the amortized cost dataset, the pricingmodel field should contain SavingsPlan, Reservation, or OnDemand.
Be aware that there could be some challenges. We have run into problems trying to reconcile our invoice against the billing exports for a number of reasons. Credits, refunds, and other adjustments occur outside of what is contained in the export. Additionally, instance flexibility seems to impact things.
We have not answered all of our questions as other priorities come up, but we continue to work on it.
Hopefully this helps.
