Data source migration

Hi team,
We are using QuickSight with redshift spectrum as the data source. We are trying to migrate the data source to an another redshift cluster. We are aware this can be achieved through editing the data source to point to the new database instance Editing a data source - Amazon QuickSight

However, we are having a hard time understanding given that all existing tables and views also exist in the new redshift cluster and the schema remains identical, how would this switch affect our existing dataset and analyses. We have the following concerns:

  1. Will this break our exiting dataset and analysis?
  2. Does this switch triggers SPICE dataset refresh automatically? Will the refresh resullts in our existing SPICE dataset depending on the old data source being invalidated entirely and requires to be reimported into SPICE from the new data source after the switch?
  3. If any of the dataset or analysis broke as a result of this migration, is the path to recovery going to be simply switch back to the previous database instance?

Thanks in advance

For migrating purposes, I would suggest creating a new data source, creating new datasets from this data source that mirrors your old datasets and making duplicates of your analyses.

Then in your duplicated analyses you can replace the old datasets with the new datasets and see what / if anything breaks.

It might take longer but it ensures that you don’t break anything that is currently working.

Hi @mamjie,
Did Max’s solution work for you? I am marking his reply as, “Solution,” but let us know if this is not resolved. Thanks for posting your questions on the QuickSight Community Q&A Forum!
