In the legacy dataset definition, we could change field type from string to geospatial field types but when I create new datasets (not legacy style), it does not allow the option for geospatial data type. When can we find that?

Geospatial data type support was added to the new data preparation experience starting May 2026, so it is no longer limited to the legacy editor. Since that date has passed, the option should be available to you now.
If you are still not seeing it, the most common reasons are that geospatial support is not available in every AWS Region (a few Regions are excluded), or the assignment lives in a slightly different spot in the new editor than the old string-to-geospatial toggle you were used to.

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to find the feature with the AWS support help. It is not located under Output. For geospatial features we should switch from Transform to Output when editing dataset.
