I know how to add visuals to a sheet and when I click on something in one visual, have it change the results on other visuals in the same sheet. The problem I have is that if I move all but the one visual to separate sheets, the results are no longer filtered.
For example, on sheet 1, I have a horizontal bar chart with Drug Names and the Ingredient Cost. Also on the same tab are a horizontal bar chart with Patient IDs and the Ingredient Cost, a horizontal bar chart with Prescriber Names and the Ingredient Cost, and a horizontal bar chart with Pharmacy Names and the Ingredient Cost. I want to click on the horizontal bar chart with the Drug Name and choose an item so that the horizontal bar chart with the Patient IDs shows those who have been prescribed the drug, the horizontal bar chart with the Prescriber Names shows those who have prescribed the drug, and the horizontal bar chart with the Pharmacy Names that filled the scripts for that drug.
The Drug Name filter is properly applied to each horizontal bar chart on the same sheet after applying an Action on the Drug Name horizontal bar chart to filer the other charts and setting the filter from Only this Visual to Same Sheet. The problem happens when I create a sheet for each of the other horizontal bar charts, even though I change the filter from Same Sheet to Cross Sheet.
Is it possible to change the results of sheets 2-4 based on selecting an item in the horizontal bar chart listing Drug Names on sheet 1? I know if I have controls on top of each sheet and I change the Drug Name in that control, it will change the results on the other sheets, but the users do not want those controls and want to interact with the charts since they have seen them work as expected on the same page.
Hi @TraderRef,
This should be achievable through setting up parameters and connecting those to respective navigation actions. With this setup, you would not have to worry about setting up a control for the fields being displayed.
Let me know if this helps!
Thanks for the quick response, @WLS-Luis. I do know about setting up parameters, but I thought the Cross Sheet filtering was supposed to work across sheets like it does in the same sheet without parameters. If I set up a parameter, say pDrugName, how do I get what I clicked on the horizontal bar chart on sheet 1, say the Drug Name Omeprazole, applied to that parameter? I know once I got Omeprazole assigned to the pDrugName parameter, I could use that in the filter on the other visuals on the other sheets, but I do not know how to get something I clicked in the bar chart assigned to that variable.
Might you be able to provide a solution that you would use?
Hi @TraderRef,
Extreme apologies for the long delay in replying back. How I would set it up is setting the pDrugName parameter with the navigation action to the other sheet that you want the other visuals to reside. From there, I would make a custom filter (connecting that same pDrugName parameter) that only resides in the second sheet, not cross-sheet. Once that is done, clicking on a bar for the respective drug should redirect you to the other visuals filtered based on it. Below is an example with different fields of my own, but I did the same process and the second sheet’s visuals filtered correctly:
Sheet 1:
Sheet 2 (Picture 1 - Before & Picture 2 - After):
Hope this helps!
Thanks for getting back to me. This is not the exact solution I was seeking, but it did make me think of an alternative way to present the data. I’ll not go into that here because it does not add to this discussion.
