i have a StartDate parameter and this also a filter given to user to select the date to see data for that week. now i have 2 visuals (plan is to overlay on each other ) and i want to display visual one if user selected date (parameter/control) is before 2024-12-02 and display visual 2 only if user selects any date after 2024-12-02. when i try to add a rule on QuickSight visual only the string parameter is showing in dropdown but not the date parameter, how do i hide a visual based on a date.
Hi @Shivananda, thanks for your question.
You are right that visual rule only accepts string parameter, so it is not possible to hide/display visual based on a date parameter. Also I canāt think of any way to work around this limitation today.
I will mark this topic as a feature request. Feel free to let me know should you need any follow-up question, otherwise I will archive this topic.
Thank you for response and marking this as a feature request @ytakahr. is there any way we can bind the parameter to a calculated field, i am thinking to create a calculated field to update based on date selection? other potential solution i am thinking is, overlaying one visual on another but when there is no data on one visual it shows āno data foundā but not sure if there is a way to hide that text or do some conditioning formatting to make it less visible.. Thanks for your reply, @Shivananda.
It is unfortunate but you cannot set parameter by calculated field today. (I always wanted this feature too.)
When you say you have two visuals, what kind of visuals are they? While there is no option to completely hide the visual in case of no data found, Iām wondering if I can be creative to make it less visible depending on the visual type.
@ytakahr Those 2 are table visuals with different sources and unfortunately those datasets/sources cant be merged. the initial requirement was ,based on the date control one has to be visible and other one has to hide
Thanks for coming back, @Shivananda.
There is a technique to display custom message using insight visual when there is no data. You can place this insight visual close to each of the tables so that at least readers can have more context why the data is not displayed.
