I have a visual in Tableau, which is a line graph customized to look like a calendar. This visualization uses 5 calculated fields, with 2 fields in columns and 3 fields in rows.
I’ve attached a screenshot of the Tableau visualization for reference.
Question : Is it possible to create a similar visualization in AWS Quicksight? If not, are there any workarounds or alternative methods to achieve this in Quicksight?
You could do something like this… use a free form layout and stack the layers if you want to show multiple labels per day… day of the week headers etc.
Hi @Nitish_reddy,
I’m just checking if you need help on this question, as we have not heard back from you. If the previous response did help, please mark his reply as solution.
Many Thanks,
Andrew
Hello @robdhondt
thanks a lot for your suggestion but can you please help up that below in the Column instead of Number can we get Name of the day like Monday, Tuesday , Wednesday etc and by any chance if we can show column number on the upper side of the graph.
and Names should start same like Monday,Tuesday,Wedneday sorting order.
To customize the calendar background, you’ll need to use free-form layouts. Here’s a quick guide:
Design Your Background: Create the background exactly how you want it to look.
Utilize Layers: Arrange elements in layers to achieve the desired layout.
Month Title: Use a visual or parameter to display the current month.
Blank Layers: Use blank layers to hide any elements you don’t want displayed in the default QuickSight visuals.
Multiple Layers: Utilize multiple layers to show multiple text labels within each day box.
Here’s a quick mockup. With this approach, you have the flexibility to spend as much time as you want on styling and formatting the calendar. The final look will depend on your preferences and the effort you put into the design.
Thanks a lot @robdhondt for your solution but i thought is there a way that if we can get the Day name on the same visual itsel instead of making things overlapping any suggesion?
You’re encountering some limitations in QuickSight that could be flagged as feature requests:
Custom Ordering in Heatmaps: Currently, you can’t use a custom order or order by a field not in the visual. This means your day names will be ordered alphabetically if included in the visual. Unlike other visuals that allow sorting by off-visual metrics (as explained here), heatmaps only allow sorting by columns and values used in the visual.
X-Axis Labels in Heatmaps: There’s no option to move the x-axis labels to the top of the heatmap.
As a workaround, you can prefix each day of the week with it’s order. This may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but it ensures the correct order.
