The subtitle text is important context for our users, but it’s taking up significant space on the dashboard layout. Ideally, the subtitle would be hidden by default and appear as a tooltip or popover when hovering over the visual title.
A few specific questions:
- Is there a native “show subtitle on hover” toggle in QuickSight, and if so, where is it located in the Format Visual panel?
- If that option isn’t available, what is the recommended workaround to achieve this hover-to-reveal behavior?
Any guidance or examples from others who have solved this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi @noahlacy45 and welcome to the community!
To answer your questions:
1. Is there a native “show subtitle on hover” toggle?
No, QuickSight does not have a native option to show the subtitles on hover. In the Format Visual panel, you can edit or show/hide the title and subtitle using the eyeball icon next to “Edit title” or “Edit subtitle,” but there’s no hover-to-reveal behavior built in.
2. Recommended workarounds.
-
Hide the subtitle and use a text visual as a toggle: You can hide the subtitle entirely and place a small text visual or image (like an info icon) near the title. While you can’t create a true hover tooltip with free text, you could use a button/checkbox approach to show/hide a text visual containing the description.
-
Use the visual’s tooltip area: QuickSight tooltips are designed for data point hover behavior (showing aggregated field values), not for displaying free-form descriptive text on the visual title.
