I'm building a Quick Sight dashboard using a table visual and want to hide the subtitle (which contains a description of the table) from the default view, and only reveal it when a user hovers over the title

The subtitle text is important context for our users, but it’s taking up significant space on the dashboard layout. Ideally, the subtitle would be hidden by default and appear as a tooltip or popover when hovering over the visual title.

A few specific questions:

  1. Is there a native “show subtitle on hover” toggle in QuickSight, and if so, where is it located in the Format Visual panel?
  2. If that option isn’t available, what is the recommended workaround to achieve this hover-to-reveal behavior?

Any guidance or examples from others who have solved this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @noahlacy45 and welcome to the community!

To answer your questions:

1. Is there a native “show subtitle on hover” toggle?

No, QuickSight does not have a native option to show the subtitles on hover. In the Format Visual panel, you can edit or show/hide the title and subtitle using the eyeball icon next to “Edit title” or “Edit subtitle,” but there’s no hover-to-reveal behavior built in.

2. Recommended workarounds.

  • Hide the subtitle and use a text visual as a toggle: You can hide the subtitle entirely and place a small text visual or image (like an info icon) near the title. While you can’t create a true hover tooltip with free text, you could use a button/checkbox approach to show/hide a text visual containing the description.

  • Use the visual’s tooltip area: QuickSight tooltips are designed for data point hover behavior (showing aggregated field values), not for displaying free-form descriptive text on the visual title.
