Linking ETL to Quicksight

Hi, I am not an advanced user of ETL or SQL so please bear with me. We currently have a number of reports that are auto sent out on email using ETL. I want to create a dashboard so we dont have to look at 4 different reports.

I thought I would be able to just copy and paste the SQL queries from ETL manager into Quicksight however this is not the case it just throws up an error. Is there a way to pull the data from ETL to Quicksight or connect it in some way please?

Hello hmthack,

I completely understand your situation. You’re not alone in wanting to consolidate multiple reports into a single dashboard. To link the ETL data to Quick Sight, you need to create a data source in Quick Sight.

Amazon Quick Sight supports a variety of data sources that you can use to provide data for analyses and dashboard. A list of the data source can be found here - https://docs.aws.amazon.com/quicksight/latest/user/supported-data-sources.html

If your current ETL process reads from a database you can create a data source that connects Quick Sight directly to that same database or connect Quick Sight to where your ETL process stores its output data.

Since you mentioned that you are experiencing some errors, I assume you have successfully created a Quick Sight datasource to the same datasource as your ETL and are creating a dataset using the custom SQL option to read your data?

What ETL tool are you referring to? Where is the source data stored? What error message are you getting?

Why SQL Copy-Paste may not work: ETL tools often use proprietary SQL dialects or have different connection contexts that need to be tweaked when using Quick Sight.

Could you share more details about your specific setup so I can provide more targeted guidance?

Regards,

I responded directly :slightly_smiling_face:

Hello Heather,

As discussed, kindly work with your technical team to grant you access to the required data sources.

Regards.
