Missing data limit warning in stacked bar combo charts

In Amazon QuickSight, visuals typically display a warning in the subtitle when not all data points can be shown because the visual has reached its display limit (for example, when a bar chart contains more categories than can be rendered).

However, I noticed that this warning does not appear for stacked bar combo charts when a line measure is also included. In this case, the visual silently omits data beyond the limit, with no indication to the user that some values are missing.

This behavior can easily lead to incorrect interpretation of the data, since users may assume they are seeing the complete dataset.

Is this the intended behavior, or is it a known issue? If it is intentional, could the warning be displayed consistently for stacked bar combo charts as well, even when a line measure is present? Having the same warning across all affected visual types would help users recognize when displayed data has been truncated.

Hi @kilian.mueller ,

Upon some research, this documentation states that the visual title should identify the number of data points displayed whenever a visual reaches its display limit. Therefore, how I interpret this is that there is no documented exception for combo charts with lines present. This other documentation I found confirms the limits themselves (50 axis × 50 group/color for bars when using Group/Color, 200 × 25 for lines), but nothing suggests the truncation warning should behave differently based on whether a line measure is included.

While I am unsure if this is an intended behavior or a bug, there are two options we can do moving forward. If you have the ability, you can create a support ticket, and the support team will be able to further investigate into this and determine if this is a bug or not. Please refer to this resource on how to create a support ticket (Case management - AWS Support). Additionally, I can attach the ‘feature-request’ tag to this post for consistent warnings across all visual types and that will help increase visibility to the Quick Team.
