I previously had a stacked bar visual that displayed totals on top of each bar. Due to new requirements, I converted it into a stacked combo chart, which works fine but I’ve lost the totals displayed at the top. Showing those totals is critical for this analysis. Is there any workaround on how to make the totals appear in the stacked combo chart?
Hi @Nitya_Goriparthi,
It looks like the ability to add totals for your bars in a combo chart is currently not possible within Quick Suite.
Looking at the examples below, the first is the visual options for a standard stacked bar chart, there’s an option to add in ‘totals’. The second is of the options for a stacked combo, which does not contain the same option:
The best work arounds I can suggest in this scenario, would be to add an additional field to your tool tip that contains the total for each bar (may require the addition of a calculated field if you don’t have made already). Or you could potentially explore the highchart option, which allows more flexibility with customizing visuals. The drawback with those though is that they require code to be setup and do not have the same interactivity as other visuals due to current limitations.
But I’ll also go ahead and mark this as a feature request to promote visibility to the AWS support team.
Thanks for your suggestions, Brett. I’m familiar with the tooltip functionality for stacked charts, but my goal here is to find a solution that displays the total value above the bar rather than just in the tooltip, as that provides the best clarity for our end-users.
I’ve also noted the Highcharts option, but given that this visual already incorporates multiple custom calculations and needs to maintain full interactivity, adding a custom-coded visual would be too difficult to manage and maintain.
Since displaying the total value natively above the bar isn’t supported, I’m looking for any creative, advanced workarounds the community might have developed that work within the standard QuickSight visual types.
In regards to a work around, there’s no real way to force the visualization to incorporate a total; you’re best option would most likely be to create a calculated field that handles the sum to create your total’s. Then layer the KPI on top of your current visual so that it looks like it’s part of the visual (by hiding the background, selection and border).
Other than that, I don’t really see another viable work around which is why I added as a feature request.
Hi @Nitya_Goriparthi,
While AWS does not disclose information or timetables on their current roadmap regarding features and other updates, you can follow the ‘What’s New’ page in the Community for all updates that get implemented.
If you’d like to file a support ticket directly with AWS to see if their team could potentially implement something for your account, you can do that by visiting the page below:
