Q: Can Okta or similar solutions be used to log directly into Quick Sight?
A: Yes, you can use Okta for IAM federation or configure Okta with IDC setup depending on your authentication selection. There’s a detailed blog post available on federating Quick Sight access with Okta.
Q: Can we create custom connectors for Quick Sight with custom JDBC drivers?
A: You can use Athena federation with a custom JDBC driver. AWS provides documentation on connecting data sources using the federation SDK.
Q: Can users from non-default namespace login to the QS console now?
A: Yes, users from different namespaces can log in to the Quick Sight console.
Q: Can namespaces only be used with federated users?
A: No, namespaces can be used with both federated and Quick Sight managed users.
Q: Can I show the History Version in the Dashboard?
A: Yes, there should be an option available in the top right of your dashboard.
Q: If in most use cases the logic of RLS doesn’t come from any application or database source, and teams want data owners to manage row level security instead of BI teams, how could AWS support managing RLS data set using a simple UI for business rules?
A: Currently there isn’t a UI for managing this, but data owners can put the rules in a CSV or Excel format and upload it to apply RLS. Many customers use CSV and Excel files for this purpose. Alternatively, if using Redshift or RDS, you can create table structures and set up a data pipeline to refresh the rules and security within that.
Q: Why can’t restricted folders be created through UI?
A: Currently restricted folders can only be created through API, but adding UI creation capability is planned for the future.
Q: Are there canned CloudWatch dashboards to monitor Quick Sight?
A: Yes, there are automated dashboards available. You can find them by going to CloudWatch and searching for Quick Sight. For uploading CSV files, you can either upload directly to Quick Sight or put it on an S3 bucket. Using S3 is recommended if you need to move data sources between development, QA and production environments.
Q: Are there any limitations of RLS and CLS of data sets with respect to Amazon Q?
A: The RLS and CLS security settings are fully supported and applied when using Amazon Q with Quick Sight. If topics are built from data sets with RLS/CLS applied, those security rules will be enforced when using Amazon Q.
