Quick Sight grid lines for line chart

Greetings.

For some reason QS add several same grids ti the Y axis. How to turn it off? I need just 1 line of 0 or 1 (etc) values. It is fixed automatically if we have lots of data, but if we have just a few - we see duplicated rows.

Switch step or to log scale I cannot. Step count even if put value 1 for some reason remove some of the grids.

Example of full auto:

Example if step count is 1:

Any suggestions?

Hi @Maksym2,
If you set a custom y-axis range from 0-1 and then set the step size to 1, this should result in the outcome you’re looking for (my data is not setup with values in that range but for example):

Greetings @Brett

Thanks for idea, but unfortunately I already have tested it and it is not the case for me. I have range from 0 to infinity (generally up to 1000) but it could be from 0 to 10, so if I set custom range 0 - 1000 and step - 1, I would have quit lot of steps (grids) . Step count just removes all gridlines except the top one (as on my second screenshot).

So, basically I just want QS to not showing the duplicates of gridlines. Is it possible to turn off somehow?

Hi @Maksym2,
Apologies, I misunderstood your initial question! I was a bit turned around because I’ve never had a line chart duplicate y-axis values the way it’s happening in your initial screenshot; this is happening with any fields in your dataset or is it only happening with one in particular?

By any chance have you changed the format of your y-axis so that it does not show decimals? Wondering if the table is signaling that the duplicate values are various levels of that number, like 3 and 3.5 for example, or something along those lines.

Hi @Maksym2,

Just checking back in since this thread hasn’t received a response in a while. Was Brett’s reply helpful to you and/or were you able to find a solution yourself in the meantime? Thanks!

Sorry for late responce. It is whole numeber (integer) both in AWS and on our side, so it should not use decimals.

Hi @Maksym2,
I did a bit more testing on this scenario to try and figure out what’s happening and I see what’s going on. When you have your step count set to Auto, the system will automatically default to somewhere in the 4-6 axis line zone. Since the auto is based on your full scope of data that could potentially be shown, it accounts for additional lines in case you have a larger range of values, like 1-100 instead of 1-3. So as you move throughout the data, the system’s ‘auto’ setting will adjust between 5 or 6 lines in relation to the y-axis range currently being shown. Unfortunately when dealing with a small range, the minimum number of lines it shows is 4. Therefore, a range any less than 4 will show those duplicate values potentially.
This is not a setting that can be currently edited, you could try setting with the Logarithmic Scale option as this will adjust, however the outcome may not be ideal when your axis has a larger range?

Hi @Maksym2,

Hope everything is well! Just wanted to check back in to see if you viewed Brett’s most recent post regarding the reasoning for this behavior. Please help the community by marking this answer as “Solution” or following up in general within the next 3 business days!

Thank you!
