QuickSight Dashboard Migration UPDATE_FAILED

Hello there,

We’ve got a multi-account QuickSight environment and are attempting to promote dashboards from one account to another. We’ve been able to do so successfully from account A to account B, but are getting an error when attempting to do so from account B to account C.

When we try to move from B to C, it says that the QuickSight data source is in the status “UPDATE_FAILED.” When running a CLI command to check the data source’s status, it says that there’s a “GENERIC_SQL_ERROR.” We did get this error earlier when trying to connect to the database, but resolved it with some route table changes to connect it to its target database, Aurora Postgres on RDS. Since then, the each QuickSight environment has been able to communicate with its target database.

I figure that it’s either a residual error from the previous network connection issue, or otherwise that the engineer running the commands has higher privileges in accounts A and B than in account C.

My guess is that you are correct that it has something to do with permissions issues or just a network error. Is the issue persisting or has it not come up again?
