Add to Hierarchy disabled on date field

Hi all,

I am unable to drill up/down on date fields in my dataset despite this supposedly being automatic. The option to add to hierarchy is disabled and the field is marked correctly as a date. This is a SPICE dataset created using custom SQL from Redshift. Please see photo attached.

Does anyone know why this is the case? I’d like to be able to drill down frm the year/month/week/day level. Thank you for your help!

Hierarchies are only supported for geo data.
Why do you want to create one for a date?

Hi Erik,

I would like to be able to drill down on the date level in my visualizations. For example, I have a time series chart with date on the X axis. I’d like to be able to drill down form year to month to day.

This help article Adding drill-downs to visual data in Amazon QuickSight - Amazon QuickSight explains how this is automatic for date fields. However, I am unable to do drill down in my dashboards.

the date fields should bring that drill function automatically within the visual.

Hi Erik,

That is how it should work, however mine does not manifest in that way.

It seems the data may be set up incorrectly but I am not sure how/why as it is identified correctly as a date.

But what’s showing under aggregation? Looks fine for me.
What visual do you use. You have to point on a specific data point in the visual.
