Conditional Formatting - Totals and Subtoals Issue

Hello, I am having an issue with the conditional formatting of totals/subtotals in a pivot table.

I have both ‘Values’, ‘Totals’ and ‘Subtotals’ all selected in the conditional formatting field, however am still unable to get the pivottable totals to be conditional formatted.

Any ideas?

Try clear all the formatting and re add them.

Apologises for the slow reply!

Unfortunately removing the formatting and re adding did not solve the issue.

It looks like the issue is that my total is ‘sum’, not the ‘default’ - is there a workaround for this?

Hi @cmagowan,

I was able to get conditional formatting to apply to totals, but this is without using any type of calculated field in the values:

So looking at your example, my thought process is that it has something to do with the field you’re using to set the conditional formatting as it looks to be calculated. When working with pivot tables and using table calculations, dimensions start playing a role which, which normally doesn’t carry over for the same logic in the totals based on how you’re calc. field is designed.
The aggregation being set to ‘custom’ leads me to believe this is the scenario; when you are unable to set an aggregation level (and it says ‘custom’), it’s because the aggregation has already been defined in the calculated field and therefore, cannot be changed.

Can you share the syntax for the calculated field that you’re using? This may be a scenario where you have to build a different calculated field strictly to be used in the conditional formatting for ‘totals’ as the current format is most likely allowing you to handle on a row level instead.
