I am asking a prompt of “where is each {column} located”. I am then asked what the word “where” corresponds to. Ideally, I want the “where” to correspond to my two fields, latitude and longitude. But, I’m unsure as to have it select both of them. Once I select latitude, I cannot also select longitude. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Hello @slefcourt, I want to confirm that I understand. Are you attempting to use Quick Sight Q to search for a specific column value, like country or customer, and have it return the values for Latitude and Longitude (which are currently 2 different columns) related to the initial field value? If that is the case, I believe this is a feature request.
Let me know if I am correct so that the request has the proper information. At AWS, our roadmap is primarily driven by our customers. Your feedback helps us build a better service.
Hi @DylanM, thank you for your response! Yes, that is correct - I am trying to associate a keyword with multiple columns which should be returned.
As a workaround, I associated the term with a named entity “location” which had “where” as a synonym with it. The named entity “location” contains the longitude and latitude columns. When the results for the query are returned, however, the longitude and latitude are averaged. I want the response to be visualized in a map, but the “Points on Map” visualization is disabled (I believe because the fields are aggregated). Do you know how I can go about enabling the “Points on Map” for this?
Thank you for your help.
Hello @slefcourt, I think the issue is occurring in your dataset. Your longitude and latitude will not average if they are a geospatial field but currently they are coming through as some kind of numeric value. In your edit dataset view, you can select the 3 dots next to your latitude and longitude fields, click change datatype, and select the matching option. I’ll attach a screen shot of that process below:

Thank you for your response, Dylan. It actually is already set as latitude and longitude in the dataset:

I did notice that in the Q topic, the data fields’ roles are
set as measures. I adjusted this to be dimension and this solved the issue of aggregation. But it did not enable the Points on Map graphic.
Hello @slefcourt, once you set the fields you want to use, it will automatically create a table from those fields. You can then use the bar graph icon to switch to a different visual type. Here is a link to some documentation on this process. To find the exact section I am referring to, search the page for this text: Q will have learnt that the desired visual type is an area graph. That will take you to the section that I think is most important.
Now, if points on a map is not one of the options, then this may not be functionality currently implemented. If that is the case, then let me know and I can tag this as a feature request and you will have to manually build the visual from the analysis view.
Thank you Dylan. I will experiment and get back with you on this.
